Foundation Final Round! A Winner Emerges!

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been having some computer troubles.

I figured that this foundation was going to be a long shot. You might remember in the swatches and the Jane Iredale BB cream in BB1 looked yellow compared to the others. It looked like it wasn't going to be a match at all. Turns out, I was so, so wrong.

First up, the packaging on the BB cream isn't anything astounding - it's more convenient for throwing in my bag to head to the gym, though.

Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage BB Cream

Here's the day one face test for shade BB1, indoors in natural light:

Look at that - it matches my neck, chest, and hairline! It doesn't look dry, it doesn't look overly shiny which is what "glow" usually equates to. The coverage is definitely full. It has a titanium-dioxide sunblock (25 SPF UVA/B full spectrum) built in and my skin feels amazing when I wash my face at the end of the day. I've been using this for two weeks now and my skin has never looked better, which wasn't something I figured a foundation would do. There is a very light sweet herbal scent which makes sense given the number of extracts in it: white tea, green tea, aloe leaf, grapefruit, bitter orange, apple, sunflower seed oil, radish root, honeysuckle. I only smell it when applying and I have a very acute sense of smell.

For a more matte finish, you can layer the Pressed Mineral foundation over the top. My shade match is Ivory (neutral undertones) but they have a variety of undertones available in a fair-to-light pressed powder. The refillable compact is amazing - the hinge is sturdy and will stay where you place it which is so rare anymore in a mirrored compact. Just large enough to hold the powder puff that comes with the powder refill. All of the packaging is recyclable, as well.

Here's my second-day photo, taken a week or so after the first photo with the powder over the top. Sorry for the lack of visibility of other skin for color-matching, it's been cold here! Clearly, I'm outside.

I think I could go on forever, so I will just wrap up with, uh, more photos (after the jump.) I may have gotten over-excited about this being such a good match and throughout the day on day one (first picture) as I ran errands with my little guy, I took pictures in different kinds of lighting situations - see more after the jump, this even looks good in florescent lighting.

Day 1, outside:

Day 1, in florescent lighting in a warehouse-y building (the worst of the worst of lighting situations!)

Day 1, at the very end of the day at a ridiculous angle so that you can see the dead-on match to my skin - no oxidization, no fuss. This is after about 12 hours of wear.

I kind of want to jump and shout that I found it! I would like to find a second option but this kind of match is so hard to find and I'm ready to buy a million back-ups.

  1. This foundation looks amazing. I want to hire you to find my match (and teach me how to apply it so it just looks like I have perfect skin!) You look great. Jealous.

    1. Thanks Sallie - it's an amazing match. Which is great, considering how many foundations I plowed through to find this one! I'm seriously considering hoarding it now. :)

  2. Got a few questions for you, so I'll post here instead of bombarding you on BT (it's daeidre here, by the way):
Despite the SPF, it doesn't look like this causes flashback. Correct assumption, or very good photo skills?
What skin type do you have, and how does this stand up to it?
    How do you apply it?

    1. Question away! I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner! :)

This does not have flashback, as far as I can tell. My photography skills are mediocre at best when pointing the camera at my own face. The SPF seems to be milled correctly and blended so that it doesn't cause any kind of white-cast or flashback, which is great given that it's physical blockers!

My skin type is generally "hot mess." I have eczema (yes, on my face,) sensitive skin, combination skin (oily t-zone like no other, so dry my skin can crack on my cheeks,) acne-prone in the dry areas, and generally uncooperative. Both the Glow Time BB Cream and the Pressed Mineral Foundation play well with my skin. Usually powders alone cling to my dry cheeks but, somehow, this stuff doesn't. Usually, I need a primer to keep liquids from sliding off of my forehead and nose; this stuff stays all day. I'm kind of wondering where they found the unicorns to get tears from for this stuff.

      I have three applications methods:
Hands! This applies well and leaves no streaking with a hands-on application. I generally do this only if I forgot to wash one of the other two methods because I'm fussy about getting makeup on my hands. Drawback: Messy hands.
Brush! I have a Real Techniques Expert Face brush that applies both the BB Cream and the Powder like a dream. Even application but you need two brushes if you're doing both powder and BB Cream. Drawback: Washing brushes, need to be careful around nose and eyebrows (I do foundation last.) This takes a little more time than hand-application.
Jane Iredale Flocked Sponge (wet:) This application method feels clumsy but leaves a nice finish. I do feel like it sheers down the BB cream a little, though. Drawback: Same clumsiness around eyebrows as the brush, sheer application

I don't use the included sponge-puff with the Pressed Mineral foundation because that's an invitation to visible dry skin on my cheeks. I do use that puff for on-the-go touch-ups (rare but I have a kid and wind up wiping stuff off my face periodically.)

If you've got more questions, fire away! :)

    2. Thank you for such a thorough reply! Super excited to try it now that I know it works on fussy skin and applied any-which-way! I tried a local spa today that stocks Jane Iredale, and they only carry the BB cream in 3 and 6 :'( Looks like it's time to contact them for samples! I hope they can do the same service to Canada.

    3. Jane Iredale has a Canadian website, https://janeiredale.com/ca/en.htm , so my guess is that they provide the same excellent customer service. Please let me know how it goes! :)

    4. Got a reply today, which was a good surprise considering it's Sunday! The woman who emailed me was very friendly but apparently they only supply samples of BB5 :( Laughably, she tried to convince me to try that one, despite my original email stating I was specifically interested in 1. Looks like I'll have to try calling spas further afield to see if they stock this elusive unicorn.

    5. That's a real bummer. Let me put in an email to the Personal Shopper that's been emailing me and see if I can get a response on why the single shade. :(

    6. Thanks :) It's a real pain-- if anyone should have access to the full range of samples, it's the company themselves!

    7. I heard back from my Personal Shopper at Jane Iredale. It seems that the customer service you reach in Canada is a distributor and they choose to only carry one shade of the BB cream for sampling. My PS assured me that the Jane Iredale money-back guarantee applies to products purchased in Canada (and any other country they list on their website.) It stinks that you don't have access to the full range of samples. :(

    8. Ugh. I would have appreciated it if the woman I was emailing could have just been honest about that. She refused to give a reason why they only have the single shade. She also assured my that their return policy was good, but I'd rather avoid the whole hassle of waiting for it to arrive, then having to send it back. I checked with four other spas today and none carry BB1 :(
